Interview date: Circa 2003

As new boss Andi Peters prepares to take the TOTP reigns, Daniel Blubbingfield whimpers on about his most touching TOTP moments to date...

Question

What did you think of TOTP when you were a kid?

Answer

I always loved it! It's a great institution of British TV isn't it. Always proud to watch it!

Question

Was it weird for you when you first appeared on the show then?

Answer

No, it was one of the most exciting experiences of my life. It was a real peak for me, getting to No.1 with 'Gotta Get Thru This'. Also, when you see yourself on Top Of The Pops, you know you've made it. There's nothing else in the music industry that tells you've made it in quite the same way! [Flushing from the flattery!] Okay, what... I'm gonna cry! [Daniel starts to look a bit peeky around the eyes!]

Question

Why sir?

Answer

Well, I'm not, but it's a very emotional experience for me!

Question

Hold on in there Beddo! What TOTP performances have been particularly memorable for you?

Answer

Cameo, in his red codpiece. [Drying off] That was hilarious! The funniest bit of TV I've ever seen, other than Basil Fawlty bashing his car up. [If you really want to know, ask your pa - Ed.]

Question

Which of your own performances did you prefer?

Answer

Definitely the first one. I thought it'd be the only TOTP performance I'd ever get in my life. I put everything into that. I was so nervous, but I loved it. And it doubled my record deal at the time.

Question

Now Benny Benassi was here a couple of weeks ago surrounded by beautiful ladies. What would make up your ideal set?

Answer

Performing with Beyonce and the rest of Destiny's Child!

Question

Who would you like to see presenting TOTP?

Answer

Gareth Gates! [Pause - followed by huge girly laugh!]

Question

Any backstage shenanigans you can tell us about?

Answer

Well TOTP does have a very high ratio of beautiful ladies backstage, so just hanging around in the corner of the Star Bar is a joy!

Question

Any particular lady taken your fancy tonight?

Answer

Yeah, a particular seven of them! The female staff are lovely here too!
