Question

Congrats on the new single! Can you tell us a couple of your favourite tracks on the album?

Answer

Yeah, I'm really excited about the album. 'Here It Comes Again', the first single is definitely one of my favourites. Another favourite which is very different to the first one is 'Reason', the title track. It's a beautiful song. It's voice, piano and strings and isn't anything like what I've done before.

Question

What made you choose to do something different like that?

Answer

I always like to experiment and try out different things. I find that song very exciting and hopefully, as my career develops, I will try other things that I haven't done before.

Question

What else have you been up to since your last album 'Northern Star'?

Answer

Well, I was lucky because 'Northern Star' was really successful which meant that I could tour quite extensively. I was touring on and off for about two years. I was going all around Europe, the Middle East, America, Australia and South-East Asia. It actually ended up that I did more shows as a solo artist than I did with the Spice Girls. Other than that I had a little bit of a rest before going straight back into the studio!

Question

You recently had a bit of a reunion dinner with your former Spice pals. How did that go?

Answer

It went really well. We all met up at Victoria's house and it was really nice to see each other again. A lot of the stuff you read about us in the tabloids isn't true, so it was nice to see everyone was really well and happy. It was nice!

Question

What nosh did Victoria serve?

Answer

Right. She actually had a cook in who made really lovely food. It was all very healthy. We had homemade vegetable soup with homemade bread for starter. We had white fish that was stuffed with prawns and herbs with vegetables and baby potatoes. And we had a very healthy dessert which was fresh fruit.

Question

Who ate their food up first?

Answer

Oh my goodness! We were all scoffing because it was pretty late and we were talking so much that we didn't really take notice of the food!

Question

What kind of music were you playing in the background?

Answer

Well, Victoria had lots of different CD's running, but I remember that Anastasia and Justin Timberlake were playing. They were all pretty different.

Question

You spoke out recently about produced pop. Do you think that you'd hate yourself if the Spice Girls were coming out now?

Answer

The Spice Girls were fantastic and I really enjoyed doing it. I am so proud to have been part of it. But, you know now that the Spice Girls were so successful that record companies have jumped on the bandwagon. There are some great bands out there and some great pop acts, but there's also some rubbish. However, the stuff that isn't really that great doesn't tend to last anyway. I don't think that I would really have been a fan of the Spice Girls anyway. It was never my taste in music that I bought. It was lots of fun doing it, but it was never the kind of stuff that I enjoyed listening to.

Question

What have you got from the experience and how has it affected you as a solo artist?

Answer

Everything that happened to me when I was with the Spice Girls was invaluable. It was an amazing experience and I learnt a lot musically and how to work in the studio. We toured for about six months, doing about 104 shows. Doing all that live work was great training as a singer. I learnt how to deal with the press and the media which enabled me to go on to have a solo career. I'm very grateful.

Question

Do you think that you would have struggled without your Spice Girls background?

Answer

You know what. I really don't think that I would have got into the music industry without being in the Spice Girls. It's something that I really don't want to think about too much!

Question

OK. We've seen recent splurge of produced popsters. Do you think that any of them are really talented?

Answer

From the whole Pop Idol thing, I really think that Will Young is an amazing vocalist. I think he's the kind of singer that has longevity. He's a really nice and intelligent guy which gives him a lot of staying power. I bumped into Blue recently and have been really surprised. They're really talented boys.

Question

Do you think that you'd ever collaborate with any of these newly founded pop stars?

Answer

I don't know. I never like to rule anything out and I enjoy collaborating with other artists. Maybe in the future, but I have no plans to at the moment.

Question

You're looking lovely and fit these days. Are there any tips that you can give us?

Answer

It's definitely about being nice to yourself. I'm lucky that I enjoy exercise. I'm down the gym three times a week. I eat sensibly and water, water, water, water. Drink loads of it. And lastly, plenty of sleep. I know that it sounds a bit boring, but it's not.

Question

So can we expect a Melanie C yoga video in the pipeline?

Answer

[laughs] No. I'd be too embarrassed.

Question

As someone with strong feelings about 'manufactured' pop, would you say Atomic Kitten were and embarrassment to Liverpool?

Answer

Oh my goodness! I would say that Atomic Kitten are definitely a credit to Liverpool! I think that the people of the city are very proud of Atomic Kitten. They're good girls with good voices. Big up the Kittens!

Question

Do you have a long-haired lover from Liverpool at the moment?

Answer

No a have a short-haired lover from Surrey! [laughs]
