Trivia

The Number 1 record is not played on this episode as the BBC banned playing “Relax” by Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
Cyndi Lauper is briefly interviewed after the chart rundown by Mike Smith, and she says hello to Queen Elizabeth II.
Mike Smith, who passed away in 2014, chose not to sign the licence extension that would allow the BBC to repeat TOTP episodes he presented. The BBC continues to honour his wishes, so this episode hasn’t been repeated on TV since 2011.
