Jonathan King presenting TOTP

Jonathan King

Top of the Pops Archive

Jonathan King is a former British radio DJ, artist, and music producer who rose to fame in the 1960s and 1970s. He first came to prominence in 1965 when "Everyone's Gone to the Moon", a song that he wrote and sang while still an undergraduate, reached number one in the UK charts.  He later went on to produce hits for bands such as Genesis and 10cc.

Whilst King lived in New York, he sporadically presented segments on Top of the Pops from 1982 to 1985. He typically reported about the US single charts, and informed viewers on pop news about US artists.

In 2001, King was convicted of multiple charges of sexual assault. King's association with Top of the Pops has been a subject of controversy in light of his criminal convictions, and his appearances on the show have been edited out of reruns on BBC Four.
